While third party Applications for the iPhone are hard to come by we have to resort to web based alternatives. The many Applications I have seen are either useless, mobile optimized versions of popular web sites or simply horrible. For 7 days I will be reviewing the better iPhone Web 2.0 Applications, not watered versions but fully functional Apps.

The fifth Application in my review of 7 will be the Digg interface for iPhone.

As much as I love Digg and its design it still lacks on quite a few things such as better searching and an enhanced dupe checker but one of the main issues with the site is the intense lack of speed particularly when loading comments.

that was a major annoyance but luckily the official Digg interface for iPhone solves most of the problems.

The simplicity of Digg’s interface has been carried by as well

which was one of the few positive things about the non mobile version. What I plus like is its not a watered down version we are accustomed to with mobile optimized web sites. You still get the full functionality of the Digg homepage as well as comments.

For individual stories the number of Digg is displayed along with description, submitter and the category. Comments are handled differently as only the top 5 are shown along side their number of Diggs.

The front page or default view shows only the most recent 10 stories but you can switch to individual topics and view the most recent 10 as well.

Overall I find myself using the iPhone optimized version more and more and would definitely recommend it. You can use the iPhone version by pointing your browser to digg.com/iphone
