Activate your iPhone within 30 days or face the consequences
A few days ago, there had been rumors that the AT&T and Apple are planning to have an in-store activation by the time the 3G iPhone is already out in the market. But that rumor no longer exists. However, the two companies are now doing their best and making preventive measures so that the 3G iPhone would not be taken advantage of. Apple and AT&T are very much aware that the opportunists would try to unlock the 3G iPhone and resell it so that other customers can use it with their current networks.

Apple and AT&T are making strict measures about the activation of the iPhone so that they can avoid future troubles. And if you are one of the thousands of people who are planning to queue at the subsidised iPhone, you have thirty days to activate the device either in an Apple or AT&T store. If you weren’t able to do so, you will pay a penalty which is also the same price of the subsidy itself. Moreover, the two companies are only limiting 3 3G iPhones for every customer.
If there are iPhone fanatics who are waiting for the device to be sold online, they just have to wait and see. As for now, one thing is clear. The 3G iPhone will be available on July 11 and the iPhones that you will see on Craigslists or in Ebay should not be bought.

So … if I don’t activate with AT&T I sacrifice the AT&T hardware subsidy and pay full price for the phone … that seems fair enough. Whats the big deal?
