An iPhone Users Plea for Peace
The excitement of this battle has quickly worn off and it is time for everyone to move forward. If you are to look over the Internet publications since the release of the Droid, everyone and their mother has done a comparison. While that was to be expected, the overflow of information that continues to be put out comparing these two phones has now reached the level of absurdity.

While a casual mention of what the Droid has compared to the iPhone is tolerable, it seems as they every headline that is out there touts this battle. Now it is being made even worse by the phone companies as some “studies” are now being done to break down what type of person is using what type of phone. Who really cares?
Enough is enough already folks, let’s just call it a draw and get back to finding out some great new things about our precious iPhone. The Droid is a great phone, there is no questioning that, but iPhone users are not going to migrate over simply because of the Verizon Network. Maybe it is better than AT&T, but is it that much better to have to go through the trouble of changing your service provider? Take into consideration that AT&T is doing everything that they can in order to hold their customers (rumors of free Blackberries, iPhones and service credits are abundant), and people are going to stay put.
The time has come to put this little rivalry behind us has officially arrived and I am more than happy to be the one to put up the white flag. Motorola, Verizon, you did a great job and have a great phone, but I could care less. I love my iPhone and will never give it up. If AT&T loses its exclusivity and you want to throw me a year’s free service and are willing to load my phone up with apps to match what I have in order to migrate over, I will come with open arms. Other than that, your advertising campaign is a big waste of money because I’m not going anywhere.
I understand that your phone is great, but it’s not an iPhone. You don’t have the apps and even if you did, I am not going to pay for them all over again. If you do eventually get the iPhone, is there a way for my AT&T iPhone to be compatible on your network? We all know the answer to that and once again, I am not going through the trouble to download everything again (not to mention that paid apps would probably not be transferable). Don’t you get it Droid, you are insignificant to loyalist iPhone users everywhere. You are nothing more than a pimple on an elephants’ ass as far as we are concerned so just go away and leave us alone!

Details of the new iPhone 4.
First iPad jailbreak has officially been released.
Could we see a Verizon iPhone 4G this summer?
The latest iPhone 4.0 beta 2 firmware is available for developers to download.
iPhone 4.0 release date is in June 2010.
The iPhone 4.0 beta 1 firmware can be "jailbroken".
Could this be the Verizon iPhone 4G?
Wow, for a minute I thought you were more realistic and human than the typical Apple cultist, but those last two sentences sealed your fate as a misguided iPhone idolater. Too bad.
I had an iPhone and switched to the Droid. The AT&T service in Alabama is awful. With Verizon, I have 3g in my rural hometown.
Agreed. The iPhone is not the best phone in the world, nor is it the worst. It does what I need it to do, and I won’t switch networks and don’t want to go through the trouble of setting up a new phone just the way I want it.
I have an iPhone 3G, and refuse to upgrade to the 3GS because it means I’ll have to pay stupid fees to get what is essentially the same phone. >.>
Right on!
We all compare autos, but in the end, move on.
Decide what carrier one wants; decide the features one wants, and then decide on the phone —- enough said!!!
I’m pretty sure if you switched to a new iPhone all you would have to do is put your iTunes account info in and go through and download your apps. You wouldn’t have to pay twice it would pop up and say you have already downloaded this app and then you would download it again. Or you could just sync it with your last backup on your computer and it would put everything on there for you.
I would *LOVE* to see a phone that far better than the iphone. But where is it???? Why can’t we have:
Built-in wi-fi that runs faster than the iPhone’s? (Where is 802.11n?)
Which phone opens Word, Excel and PDF file attachments?
Weigh less than 5 ounces?
Which of them are thinner than iPhone at 0.5″?
Which can I install more than 100,000 different apps into? (Many are totally free!)
(It took Windows more than 9 YEARS to gather just 20,000 apps. The iPhone did far more in 1-2 years.)
Which can I write my own code for?
Which phone had more than 1,400 new apps added in one *DAY*? (18-Sep-2009)
Which phone can use over 20,000 AT&T wi-fi hot-spots, for free?
Which phone has more than 32 BILLION bytes of ram? (Without buying any extra mem cards)
Which have a better/faster browser than Safari?
Which have 1000 accessories that I can buy at stores all over the world?
Which phones cost less than the iPhone’s $99?
Which have multi-touch screens bigger than 3.5″?
Which phone sells more than 1 million units… just in the 1st weekend?
Which phone has more than 3 GPS methods? (Cell, satellite, wi-fi.)
Which phone gives you high-speed, UNLIMITED data for under $30/month?
Which phone has more than 125,000 developers writing apps for it?
Which phone can I buy in more than 70 countries?
Which screens are sharper than 163 pixels/inch?
Which phone quickly sold 13,000,000 phones?
Which phone has more than 50 of the Top 100 Fortune Companies deploying it to their staff members?
Which screens can display more than 16 million colors?
Which phone has some very popular apps? (more than 1.5 billion downloads in the 1st year)
Which phone has 1,200 new apps being reviewed per *DAY*?
Which phones sell refurbished models for less than $49?
Which has a built-in battery that last 5-10 hours of continuous talk-time?
Which phones let me leave 5,000 songs on my home computer, but still play them on my phone from anywhere in the world?
Which phone let’s me listen to more than 1,000 free radio stations, even though it has no radio in it?
Which phone can play 50,000,000 movies/videos/TV shows, without storing any of them in the phone itself?
Which phone can make free voice-calls over wi-fi, all over the world?
Which phone has a built-in FM radio receiver and transmitter?
Which phone has a built-in compass?
Which phone has every imaginable app from “where to buy marijana” to “PhotoShop(tm)”. (I’m NOT kidding)
Certainly something other than just the iPhone can do all this stuff.
I thought so.
Don’t get me wrong… I would *LOVE* to see 10 different companies making
phones that have all those features. I’m just not seeing them over the past
2-3 years. Maybe they’ll get on the ball in 2010 or 2011????
(Of course… they will STILL be trying to play catch-up to the Iphone v4.0 by then)
What are they waiting for???
There’s a reason why we are seeing so many companies/phones that are desperately trying
to look like the iPhone: They are trying to *BE* the iPhone. (Or you can just, simply
buy the actual iPhone instead. Now. Today. $49)
Very harsh… Harsh indeed. I feel the droid is a wonderful phone, having used one myself, and it deserves a pat on the back. As far as all of these comparisons, people just like to see them juxtaposed and compare and contrast them. It’s kind of ridiculous how big a deal they are, but whatever. I love my iphone, and as long as apple continues to upgrade their hardware and software (higher res screen plz!!) I, and many others, will stick to it.
You have a point about switching. I find your comments about the cost of switching quite telling about one of the key factors of the industry and the power of the App Store..
On the other hand, there are many many people who have yet to get onto the lastest gen of smart phones (myself included) and are waiting for existing contracts to expire. There is a lot at stake for these companies to get the next wave of clients onto one platform or the other. You said it yourself, once you’re in, you’re in (stuck?)
All the apps that I purchased for my iPod touch worked just fine when I purchased an iPhone. I think it’s safe that they’ll run on an iPhone on a different network (in the same country).
Really? An Apple fan-boy is complaining about something being over-hyped? Ironic. There will never be an “iPhone Killer” (I hate that term). It will always have a position in the marketplace. But, there will be “iPhone Contenders”. Droid being one of them. And as far as the iPhone having more apps that Android; that’s temporary.
Ummmm, you can transfer data from one iPhone to a new one.
Restore it from the backup of your current one.
You really think Apple would put a system in plac to do this?!?
I like how this article is titled with “Plea for Peace”, but then it ends with vitriol, attack and insult. Nicely done. /s
Yes there is about to be a phone that can do practically all those things.
The HTC dragon!
Also with a much bigger screen, is a lot thinner, and has much better video.
I think the simple fact is that there is a phone that suits a segment of the population perfectly, and then there is a great chasm in the middle, full of people who will buy the one with better marketing and “mass appeal”.
For me: iPhone = App Store = iTunes = Noooo thanks.
Quite possibly the LEAST user friendly software that ever existed. You’re constantly searching for workarounds and solutions to problems that shouldn’t be problems and once you figure it out, if someone else in your household buys another iAnything then you just started trying to do the equivalent of unencrypting a nuclear power plant tech manual in tryng to manage both (or more than both) of them frmo the same computer. Yes, I know there are solutions, but the fact is…. there shouldn’t have to be. I don’t want to have to figure out how NOT to have my daughter’s iPod libraby on my iPhone. I just want it to work… simply and easily.
Drag + Drop = YAY!
I realize that this isn’t an issue for a big percentage of the iPhone users out there, but I know dozens of people with the same gripes about the iPhone and the Droid has solved nearly every one of my Apple/AT&T problems.
There are probably as many (or more) who live in a world more optimally suited to using the iPhone. The world can surely exist with both…
Can’t we all just get along?
Wait… one more thought…
Be honest, if there are (I don’t know how many) 100,000 iPhone apps; How many of them are teaser apps to get you to buy the “real” one, and how many of them are “Pull my finger” apps?
I just did a search for “clock” and it turns out there are 374 clock apps. Do I need 2 of them?
Captain Jack – great point.
My wife constantly complains about having our teenager’s music co-mingled with hers.
