      I think that if someone does make a decision to keep the 2G iPhone, the smartest way to utilize the hardware would be to make a Wi-Fi VOIP phone out of it by buying and installing VOIP app from the upcoming App Store… This way you still have an iPod, and also have Wi-Fi phone you can use at home, work, or at the hot-spot.
