App Santa Live pulled from the App Store after much controversy

Developer Adam Majewski’s Santa Live app has had its share of bad press already: it was reported a few weeks ago on several sites that Majewski was paying commenters to leave positive feedback about his app, which is a big no-no in this industry. But after the poor taste of a novelty Christmas song included in the app, Santa Live has been officially pulled from the App Store and is no longer available for purchase.

Santa Live

Yesterday’s episode of Santa Live featured the song “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer.” Apparently, children young enough to care about Santa are also young enough to have trouble understanding the song about a grandmother being killed. Parents complained, and Majewski, already deep in debt with development costs, was forced to pull the app. No one is baffled by the lack of success with Santa Live, but bad taste is bad taste, regardless of what technology is involved.

Apple hasn’t had any comments about the situation, but i’m sure they didn’t appreciate the content of the app and had an influence on the decision.

I got this app a couple of days ago when the song in question was the song of the day. Maybe I’m a grouchy old adult but I thought the song was really funny. At least I got it for free.
