App Store crosses the 100 million download barrier

The App Store has served up more than 100 million downloads since it first launched, according to Apple CEO Steve Jobs. Jobs announced the amazing figure during Apple’s “Let’s Rock” event in San Francisco on Tuesday.

iPhone 2.0

The App Store launched in mid-July with about 500 applications live and ready to download. By the end of the first weekend, its first full days in operation, iPhone and iPod users had grabbed more than 10 million downloads. The App Store is available to any iPhone or iPod touch user whose device is running iPhone 2.0 software or later.

Now Jobs reports that there are over 3,000 applications available for immediate purchase and download from the App Store, which is operating in over 60 countries worldwide. The success of the App Store is “even more mindblowing,” said Jobs, when you consider that Tuesday marked the two month mark for its operation. The future holds even more promise, according to published reports. More games, apps and high profile software are headed to the iPhone and related platforms.

    It’s really not amazing to me… 100Million, 1Billion, even 1 Trillion.
I just downloaded over 100 Apps and they are all free… I’m then being sent a bill costing $0.

The most amazing thing of all is I don’t even need to own an iPod to download these apps.
I have yet bought an iPod Touch or iPhone when I downloaded these apps.
All one need is to open Apple Account and register with Credit Card belonging to those country with Apple Store.
