In an unexpected move, Apple announced on its site that it is discontinuing the NDA for iPhone programming. Link here: http://developer.apple.com/iphone/program/

The reasons were that they felt they needed to protect Apple’s innovations from being stolen by others. But they (finally) acknowledged that it placed too much of a burden on the very people who would contribute to the iPhone’s success.
Many iPhone developers were very critical of the NDA and its restrictions, saying it held back progress
Many see the removal of the NDA as signaling a new openness from the company, and a huge step for the platform as a whole. Now developers will be able to share secrets and talk to each each, and work together to create new and cool apps for the iPhone.
