Apple released the fourth beta version of the iPhone SDK (software development kit), which now includes an OpenGL ES support in the iPhone’s simulator. The OpenGL ES, which is royalty-free, is a cross-platform API for both 2D and 3D graphics on embedded systems.

According to Apple enthusiasts, developers have been asking the company for support in testing OpenGL applications via the simulator instead of accessing it directly on the iPhone.

The latest SDK also includes features like an interface builder, compilers, frameworks and samples, Shark analysis

tool and Xcode integrated development environment. Due to the anticipated launch of the new iPhone and its updated operating system, developers are currently building applications.

The new SDK is available for free download via Apple’s Developer website. Any developer planning to test the code directly on the iPhone and would be distributing their respective applications through the App Store need to apply for a membership in Apple’s iPhone Developer Program.

Since the first SDK was released on March 6, developers have voiced out plenty of complaints.
