Apple this week has won a trademark infringement lawsuit against a Chinese electronics company. New Apple Concept Digital Technology Co. was ordered to pay 400,000 yuan (~$58,000 USD), completing a battle between the two companies that began in 2006 when the Shenzhen-based manufacturer was ordered to stop using its trademark in their name, according to China Television.

Hammer

New Apple Concept had used a logo that featured an apple with the characteristic missing bite,

and was very similar (too much so) to Apple’s own logo.

Even if you’re in China, someone with Apple’s reach and power will find you if you abuse copyright blantantly.

The meager settlement (and it is pocket change to both companies really) is much less significant than the order to stop using the logo. Apple has held the registered trademark in China since 1993, with exclusive rights to the logo still remaining until 2013.
