During Steve Jobs’s keynote last WWDC, loyal watchers of Apple Inc. might have noticed that something is missing.

iPhone

When there were hundreds of rumors and tons of talk regarding the second-generation iPhone, there were no updates about the first gadget that the Apple Inc. made popular – the iPod.

As Steve Jobs stood at the stage in front of the Apple devotees, he pointed out that they have three main businesses namely the Mac, the iPhone, and the Music. Unfortunately, Steve Jobs did not specifically mention the iPod. Several analysts from Gartner Research noticed the same thing including Ken Dulaney.

Probably it is because that the iPhone is just like and iPod and even more. The iPhone can allow users to play music as well organize it. Moreover, it also serves as a camera, a cellphone, and of course, a mobile Web browser.

Now that the introductory price of the second-generation iPhone is only $199, Apple Inc. is like competing with its own product – the iPod.
According to Ken Dulaney, Apple Inc. made it clear that they want to dominate the mobile phone industry. Therefore, if the 3G iPhone would take over the music-gadget iPod, then they are simply okay with it.

That’s what one would initially think, but the ipods still have some unique advantages. The shuffle still has it’s size/cost advantage, and the 30Gig hard drive ipods have their capacity advantage.

And I even find the ipod mini for my car to just leave it in the car attached at all times. I have an iphone, but I prefer not to keep plugging/unplugging it in especially on a short drive to the store.
