AppSnapp (auto-jailbreak) for iPhone gets a lot better: Progress indicator, getting ready for firmware 1.1.2

by the weekend, AppSnapp — a tool that makes it drop dead simple to install third-party applications on iPhones — underwent a significant overhaul. Among the enhancements:

  • The jailbreaking and pushing of Installer.app to the iPhone are now logged to var/root/Media/AppSnapp.log (on the iPhone). that means that whether something goes wrong, you can see where and how.
  • AppSnapp now checks what firmware/software version you are using, and will not run on devices that are not running version 1.1.1 (the only version with which AppSnapp is currently compatible.
  • “Improved reliability.” The development team says they are no longer using raw sockets to send the payload files, they are being served back to the phone/ipod via HTTP. “This greatly improves the chances you’ll actually get it jailbroken the first day.”
  • Progress indicator Once Safari crashes (necessary to start the process), you will see a dialog box indicating what is happening.
  • Includes the latest version of Installer.app, and installs Community Sources by default. Installer.app is used to install native apps on the iPhone, and Community Sources adds several application repositories to Installer.app.
  • One-touch, even for users with unactivated phones. Nicholas “Drudge” Penree told iPhone Atlas “Previously, with unactivated phones you’d have to manually reboot and stuff. that just does it all and soon after reboots, and when it reboots you are fully activated, jailbroken with a working YouTube.”
  • Fixes an issue where the majority of users with unactivated phones wouldn’t get YouTube working automatically.

Penree additionally told us that the new version of AppSnapp makes preparations for iPhone software/firmware 1.1.2 — which will likely, temporarily, obviate the AppSnapp process: “It’s written in such a way that when we find an exploit for 1.1.2, we can use the same installer for it,” he said.

We previously reported that there were nearly 150,000 installs of AppSnapp in its first 3 days of availability.

To use AppSnapp, navigate to http://www.jailbreakme.com on a “virgin” iPhone running software/firmware 1.1.1.

    i bought an iphone in the uk and i want to put applications on it but im worried will it break it and plus i dont know how. the iphone i got is 1.1.2 yersion. it would be great if u could get back to me. cheers! ash
