Aren’t the Android Developers interested?

There are two words that could perfectly describe the latest 3G iPhone – cheap and sleek. The latest model of the iPhone also sets as a platform to most developers as well. The 3G iPhone also includes a built-in store which is expected to generate one billion until next year. Some people compare the 3G iPhone to the Android mobile OS from Google. The latter des not have a formal release date until now. Aside from that, the Android also does not have a built-in way of retailing or even promoting applications.

Is it possible that the developers of the Android would drop their current project just to join the Apple bandwagon? When several Android developers were interviewed, they have pointed out reasons why they would not join other developers in creating applications for the iPhone.

First of all, the applications of the Android and the iPhone are different. Android uses Java while iPhone uses Objective-C. There would be a language gap and if ever the Android developers were to switch to Objective-C, it would take time before they get the hang of it since they are really not familiar with the iPhone’s language.

Next is that Apple Inc. controls the kind of application that would be included in its App Store. Android does not have limitations or restrictions which make the developers more interested in creating native applications because they can show more of what they can do.

And of course, why should they leave if there is already $1.25 million that was given away for the Android developers during the first phase of the so-called Android Developer Challenge alone. This simply means that there is a lot more (really more!) money that is left to be given away – $8.75 million to be exact.
