AT&T call drop rate of 30% considered normal in certain areas?

Tech website Gizmodo has a new report out about a customer complaining about a 30% call drop rate in NYC, and he was told that that was considered typical for the region these days. The reader even provided the report submitted to him by the technician, which in itself is quite disturbing.

AT&T

Here it is:

“Issue Description: dropped calls, poor signal
Steps to Reproduce: plugged into behavior scan, report concludes that phone has dropped over 22 percent of the phone calls made. customer states that the percentage is a bit higher but does not register to the phone due to the fact that when a call begins to fail he manually disconnects the call.
Issue Verified: Yes
Proposed Resolution: this is a basic trouble shooting case so that the customer may report back to ATT to show that the phone is fully functional and the problem is consistent with the service provided by ATT”

AT&T has freely acknowledged they’ve had issues in more populated urban areas, like San Francisco and New York, but 30% drop rate is unacceptable in our eyes. We almost don’t blame Apple for considering ways to exit out of their exclusivity agreement, which rumors are starting about their very wish to do so.

I totally disagree about iPhone drop calls story. I have been with Verizon, Sprint, and now AT&T. It boggles my mind the number of dropped calls, failed attempts or searching for signal I am getting with AT&T. With all this increased revenue you would think they would reinvest it back into their infrastructure. I mean other carriers are already advertising 4G networks (sprint) and verizon has the claim of fewest dropped calls and largest coverage area. I think AT&T should have a new ad campaign, “AT&T fastest network when you actually have consistent service”. “AT&T more bars, more dropped call”. “AT&T we hope sprint does not get the iPhone!” I think AT&T should fix their issues or lower prices to reflect their level of service!!!!
