There are over 35,000 apps for the iPhone by now – and many of them offer stunning graphics, effects, and sheer power on a smartphone device.

So it’s hard for some people to admit that the powerful, wonderful iPhone sometimes needs a little help getting through the day. One way to do this – and to help your iPhone get a fresh start on free memory (of the RAM variety, the kind programs use to run, not storage memory) – is to get in the habit of restarting the iPhone once per day. Since firmware 2.0 or so, wireless syncing with Linux and the iPhone have stopped working, and much sadness was felt in the Linux world.

But now there’s been a workaround published by Ubuntu users that seems to work pretty well, according to comments all over the web that we’ve read.

Several sources have found that by typing out a “z,” then touching and dragging to back up the cursor behind it, they could type pretty much anything they wanted.

Typing behind the Z leaves auto-correct unable to guess what word you could possibly be forming—”cabinetz?” it asks, so it leaves you alone.

In general, the Safari+ bookmarklets offer up the same kind of functionality you’d get in a full-size browser through the magic of specialized JavaScript code. Most are unobtrusive and seamless, and some are quite helpful, forcing mobile Safari to open any link in a new window, for example, or displaying all the photos on a page in a single layout.

Like similarly helpful bookmarklet-powered tools Pastebud and Instapaper, you’ll probably have to manually edit these bookmarks to single out the JavaScript, but it seems worth the point-and-drag effort for certain. It’s a shame Apple didn’t include all of this originally, but hey, developers exist for a reason.

Apple has sections for: Around Town (related to local food and events), World Travel (events and other stuff from around the world), At Home (on the range with family and home related apps), Getting Things Done (productivity apps for business), and Fun and Games (self-explanatory; games for the iPhone are an exploding market right now).

They have staff picks, top downloaded apps, and descriptions of featured applications. It’s an interesting philosophical approach to the everyday use of the smartphone, and the apps recommended are generally the best of the lot.

1. Cycle iPhone once a month: Once a month charge your iPhone to 100% and let it run down to 0% percent charge and shutoff. This cycles the lithium battery inside the iPhone.
