Rumors have it that a new firmare update that would work for Apple Inc.’s second-generation iPhone may include innovations for the GPS functions of the device. However, it is not yet clear if that particular software would help in correcting the reception issues of the 3G iPhone.

From a recent report from GearLive, Apple Inc. has already provided the beta version of the software/firmware. The developers call it the iPhone OS 2.1 beta 1. the iPhone OS 2.1 beta 1 will provide all the additional features for all the developers who wish to use the built-in GPS chip of the 3G iPhone.

If this is the case, then the review of David Pogue regarding the

GPS capabilities of the second-generation iPhone will be alleviated. He once mentioned that the latest device from Apple Inc. cannot be used for turn-by-turn navigation. That would definitely be a nice improvement for the 3G iPhone. However, it is not the main concern of the current 3G iPhone users.

The users of the iPhone 2.0 were excited about the firmware thinking that it would solve the reception issues of the device. They have been complaining about it since day 1. Although Apple Inc. does not admit that they have issues maintaining a connection in 3G networks, there are now numerous complaints that users get weak signals even from areas where other 3G phones can get a good reception.
