Fring released a new mobile VoIP application specifically for the iPhone, which is designed to be used via WiFi connection. This application allows users to chat and enable presence with other Fring users as well as a plethora of other IM clients ranging from SIP to Skype.

With this application, the iPhone is now capable of recognizing related public network WiFi hotspots, so if a user has logged into one network hotspot, it would recognize other hotspots within the same network and log users in automatically. However, users may be discouraged by

the language in the release describing the software as “pre-release and light, sneak preview R&D version.” Plus, all iPhone devices should be unlocked to use the software.

The pre-release Fring is designed to satisfy iPhone users requesting for a Fring and generate user feedback to influence its development process for the full version release, due for launch later this year. Fring reported that it has been signing up more than 100,000 new users monthly since the sneak preview was released on January 2008.
