Google phone to eat as much as 4 percent of the smartphone market

According to the research group called Strategy Analytics, the Android-based mobile phone from Google is expected to take as much as four percent of the smartphone market in United States during the last quarter or Q4 of 2008.

The estimate given by Strategy Analytics comes as the first phone using Android operation system is planned to be launched on September 23 by its carrier, T-Mobile. This mobile phone from Google is currently tentatively called as the Dream. Although the details were not yet confirmed, the FCC filings said that the handset manufactured by HTC will have a screen that is meant for touch-screen features and can be flipped out so that it will reveal the other features such as the Wi-Fi, a QWERTY keyboard, and Bluetooth capabilities.

The research group also said that there will be as much as 10.5 million smartphones that will be sold in United States alone during the last quarter of this year. They also mentioned that the Google phone will sell as much as 400,000 units during the same quarter. If you would compare it to the second-generation iPhone, it sold as much as 1 million units all over the world, a week after its debut. The analysts in the industry estimated that the 1 million units will only be from United States alone.
