So the iPhone can be regarded as a modest success. The research firm, iSuppli, announced their details shows the iPhone outsold every other smartphone in the month of July (the first full month of iPhone sales). Ever since the iPhone launched talks began as to when it will be released worldwide. soon after the rumor of the iPhone nano hit the streets.
I personally don’t care about the release date as it would be foolish for Apple to release a new model before it rolls out its existing model worldwide. No, I’m more concerned with what Apple will do to the product line to give customers more choice. So what will be next for the iPhone line?
whether you follow the same model that Apple used when creating the iMac, iPod, and Nano lines soon after we are in for a capacity bump, next color choices.
Apple launched the original iMac in August 1998 to great fanfare and in one color: blue. Bondi Blue to be exact. The next release saw a few modifications and a VRAM bump to the line. But it wasn’t until the 3rd version, January of 1999 where the “yum” colors hit the scene.
Fast forward to the iPod. Launched in October 2001, it had one 5GB white model. Version 2.0 in July of 2002 gave us some slight modifications (solid state scroll wheel and Firewire Cover) and a capacity bump to 10GB and 20GB. Third gen iPod came in April 2003 with more space and a new interface. thereupon boom! The next release in January 2004 was a rainbow of colors in the iPod Mini. Coincidence?
Now let’s look at the iPod Nano. Came out September 2005, in White and Black at 2GB and 4GB. thereupon Voila! Color choices with the second generation Nano in September 2006. whether two products was a coincidence, 3 products is a trend.
And that brings us to the iPhone. Sleek. Black. Chrome. Only 8GB. What comes next? A bump to 60GB and 80GB? Colors? Both? What do you think?
