iPhone 3GS 3.1 Jailbreak has been released – sort of

The word is out and the prisoners are overjoyed: The iPhone 3GS jailbreak for OS 3.1 announced yesterday and confirmed earlier today is now released for public consuption, compliments of the ever hard-working Dev Team.

PwnageTool

There is one caveat: The iPhone 3GS is now supported in PwnageTool 3.1.3, assuming the phone was pwned at 3.0 or 3.0.1 versions – PwnageTool does not support the 3GS out of the box as of now anyway. If your iPhone 3GS has 3.1 preinstalled and is not Pwned then there is no firm jailbreak solution at the moment. They’ve working feverishly on a solution to this as well.

This means that if you updated to version 3.1 or if you acquired your iPhone 3GS with OS 3.1 already installed, you will not be able to jailbreak at the moment.

However, if you are on a pwned version of 3.0 or 3.0.1 (either using PwnageTool, RedSn0w, or PurpleRa1n), then you are fine and you’re all set.

PwnageTool is for Mac OS X only as well. There is no Windows version created yet, and we’re assuming Dev Team is working on this as we speak.

    Hi
    I have jailbroken my 3GS 3.0 with purplera1n rc2a.
can i upgrade the custom IPWS 3.1 and be jailbroken or do i have to use redsn0w to jailbreak it before i can use the custom 3.1 IPSW?
thanks in advance for your help.

yes, redsn0w, purplera1n, quickpwn, pwnage, any of those previously used means that you are “pwned”

Not only did my 3Gs come with 3.1 out of the box, I am also a pc user, so no go on both fronts !

    @godfrem,

I’m in the same boat your in. Isn’t the an AT&T store that still has them with 3.0.1 on them. I have 30 days to return mine to att and cancel. I got the Iphone just for the thrill of jailbreaking and playing. What if I get a G and return this GS will that help with the jailbreak?

    Hi Everybody !!

I also bought a 3GS 3.1 out of the box. But as per the details I have read, at the moment there is NO jailbreak for this. I saved for a long time to buy an iphone and once I got it, I am unable to use it.

Please Dev team, if you are reading this, or if anyone knows how to unlock the 3GS 3.1 out of the box, Please let us all know.

Thank you very much for all your hard work and support.
Hope the jailbreak will be out soon !!

    Thanks alot, SHEHAN
