Apple recently closed a deal with Rogers Communications, confirming the end of unlocked iPhones in Canada. As a result, Canadian iPhone users have no need to buy from the U.S. and unlock the device for Canadian use. Rogers Communications announced Tuesday that it would offer iPhone to its subscribers later this year.

Rogers Communications President and CEO Ted Rogers announced the Apple deal in a short statement, saying, “We’re thrilled to announce that we have a deal with Apple to bring iPhones to Canada later this year. We cannot tell

you more about it right now, but stay tuned.”

Rogers also reported a $2.4-billion revenue and $344 million net income for the first quarter of 2008.

The iPhone was launched in the U.S. last June, which was soon followed by the release in European countries. Just like AT&T’s exclusive deal with Apple, the iPhone requires an exclusive arrangement with a single service provider. Canada’s other major cell phone providers – Telus and Bell Mobility – were not considered as iPhone providers due to their incapability of featuring GSM infrastructure.
