To think that most people complain about a phone that costs a few hundred dollars when it has all of the abilities that the iPhone has!

Well if you were living in China, you would really be shaking your head because the iPhone splashed into China stores with a hefty four figure price tag. You are not reading that wrong, the same phone that we can get in the United States is costing about $1,000 in China.
While stateside consumers would more than likely balk at the high price tag of the iPhone, China consumers are flocking to the stores to get the new gadget that they have been waiting what seems like forever to get their hands on. The lines were not quite as long as they were in the United States on the day the iPhone was released, but they were pretty impressive none the less. Hundreds of people anxiously awaited the doors of their local stores opening so that they could be a proud carrier of one of the super phones of our time.
While the iPhone sales are expected to be good in China, they are still being hurt by “grey market” phones that are already being carried by consumers in China. You would have to question why someone would buy an iPhone in a regular store if they live in China when they can go on eBay and have it shipped to them for less than half the price.
In order to capture some of this market, Shanghai Unicom will be offering upgraded service to those that wish to switch their service over from China Mobile’s Edge 2G Network. While they will not have sold them the phone, they will be able to generate revenue via the monthly billing. They are hoping that the upgrade to 3G network speeds will be enough to woo the grey market phones over to them.
