The iPhone won’t desert you in a strange city. Instead it will help you navigate about , whether you’re on foot, public transportation or in a rental car. The map feature on the device is impressive.

Simply tap the map function to begin tap map function – this brings up the google map option. You can search by city, address or zip code. Bring up the search function and type in one of the above to narrow your search. You can zoom in and out by tapping the map, or move over a section by pulling your finger across the screen. This feature has helped me more than once when in a strange city. Sometimes the human directions to the meeting place are less than adequate and I‘ve found myself navigating streets where everything looks the same.

The maps

are clear and easy to read. They are also extremely helpful when you’re hungry and want to find a restaurant to either entertain guests or just unwind with friends.
Once you have your city’s name typed into the search function, simply type in the variety of restaurant you desire. Whether it’s French or Pizza a series of red dots will appear on the screen. To find out more about a restaurant press the blue flag beside the dot.

You’ll get information on the place complete with phone number to make reservations (just tap). The directions feature for the restaurant will guide you in once you’ve entered a beginning address. You’ll get turn by turn instructions along with traffic advice.

Makes life easier and after a day of absorbing more information than I thought possible it’s like meeting an old friend.

The iphone NEEDS a search function. For me, it is next to useless without it. I have had many pda’s, all with the search function and my data is stored to suit. The sooner a search is released, the better. THEN I will use my iphone.
