Is there anyone out there sold on the iPhone but still yet to buy? That’s the question survey company Lightspeed Research set out to reply, and they’ve come back with some impressive results: they’re saying one in three Americans wants an iPhone. In fact the top reason for all that frothing desire is the promise of successful convergence; having music, movies, Net and wireless all in one device.

My usual qualm
with surveys like these is the size of the group questioned, but Lightspeed seem to have covered that base too. 39,000 humans were quizzed in the days following the iPhone’s introduction, and a further 34,000 on July 5th, leading the company to propose with some certainty that the already-iconic handset could be the most successful launch that century.
