Further to our previous post about the iPhone Dev Team releasing their unlocking software they have now released a Beta version of their GUI software unlock.

This is by far a much easier option

for unlocking your phone as all you need to do is jailbreak your iphone, upload the Unlock.app and press the Unlock icon.

You can download the Unlock.app and get more details here.

Will this hack work (the free GUI) is the iPhone was never activated on At&t? Example, If I walk out the apple store and try to install a T-Mobile SIM without first activating the AT&T one? I ask this because many people from my country would like to buy the phone bring it back to our country´s network (GSM) and unlock it, but we´re not sure if it’ll work without the whole At&t out of the box process.

That is exactly what it is designed to do.

I unlocked my phone manually and it works perfectly. However, before starting I had to get an ATT account to get the firmware update which is a prerequisite.(version 1.02 i think ?) Fortunately, I was also able to cancel my ATT account the same day that evening and use my T-mobile account w/out any termination fees etc.
