Since day one of it’s launch hackers have been working day and night across the world to unlock the iPhone and free it from the necessary AT&T 2 year contract needed to use it as a phone.
The most talked about hack today is the Turbo Sim method which fools your iPhone to believe that it is using an activated AT&T card but allows you to connect to your own network using your own sim card.
The Turbo Sim is manufactured by a Czech company, Bladox who are a legitimate company who manufacture a range of development tools for sim applications. They have no interest in unlocking iPhones and were taken by surprise when it was realised that one of their products could actually be used to enable different sim cards to be used in iPhones.
As soon as it was announced on their forums by a Turbo Sim purchaser that they had successfully used it to free their iPhone to use their own sim card they were inundated with orders from across the world and within 2 days had to close their shop down to new orders as they simply couldn’t cope with the demand.
If you’re one of the lucky ones who managed to order a Turbo Sim from Bladox before they shut their shop down for new orders and are now looking for instructions on how to do this then this is for.
First you will need to do is jailbreak your iPhone and get SSH access to it. For windows users we would recommend visiting the following page:
Next on your list of things to do will be to install SSH on your iPhone. For this we recommend visiting the following page:
Now that you have jailbreaked your iPhone and have shell access you can make your iPhone skip activation requests by replacing the file /usr/libexec/lockdownd.
This file can be found here.
Now you are ready to setup your Turbo Sim. FOr detailed instructions you can visit the following page:
You can skip the first part if you have already covered the previous steps above.
A few tips for you.
1. Cutting the sim card - The easiest way of doing this is to use a stanley knife. Don’t try and cut the sim like using a saw. Simply lay the sim card down on a flat surface, place the blade where you need to cut and apply pressure.
2. To change file properties using the WinSCP program, click the file you need to change, then click File in the top menu, click properties. A box will appear and where it says “Octal” just type 0755 then click okay.
3. To run commands from WinSCP click Commands in the top menu, click “Open Terminal” then you can type in the needed command.
Within a couple of hours you should be able to use your own sim card on your iPhone.
