iPhone was outpaced by BlackBerry in the first quarter
Research In Motion Ltd. had been expanding its market by advertising Blackberry not just in the Internet but in Television as well. According to the research conducted by the IDC, the Blackberry from RIM outpaced the iPhone from Apple Inc. during the first-quarter market sales in United States. Moreover, there is now a big gap between Blackberry and iPhone compared to the gap these two devices had during the last quarter in the year 2007.

According to Ramon Llamas, one of the analysts of IDC, RIM’s BlackBerry already took up almost 45 percent of the market shares in United States during the first quarter. Blackberry only had 35.1% of the market shares in United States during last year’s last quarter. While iPhone, on the other hand, took only 19.2 percent of the market shares for this year’s first quarter. It dropped from 26.7 percent from 2007’s last quarter. However, Ramon Llamas expected this drop at iPhone’s market share since the last quarter includes the shopping season during last year’s holiday.
But BlackBerry’s company, Research in Motion Ltd. had undertaken an excellent marketing campaign. This includes TV advertisements that can reach not only its business customers but mainstream buyers as well.
However, it is not just RIM that gained its market share in United States. Other companies that also increased their market share from last year’s fourth quarter include Palm Inc. and Samsung. Unfortunately, Motorola Corp. also went down on the first quarter of this year.
