iPod Touch sales catch fire with price drops, iPhone sales set new record
Apple’s latest financial report was pretty much nothing but good news, including setting an iPhone sales record with 7.4 million units moved last quarter, along with a 100% increase in iPod Touch sales, despite relatively flat iPod sales during the quarter. Dropping the price and advertising the Touch a bit more did the trick, helping to boost its sales.

COO Tim Cook had a few notes, including the fact that, in response to a question about how the $99 iPhone 3G affected sales of the new iPhone 3GS: “the demand for the iPhone 3GS did exceed expectation; we quickly changed our orders for components. I think it shows there’s an intense appetite for Apple’s latest technology and we were very pleased with the result.”
He also noted that at times during the quarter, the demand for the iPhone 3GS outstripped supply, and the company struggled to keep them on the shelves at times, noting that component shortages were often the reason for the issues. Cook notes that these issues have mostly been resolved now.
