Merge shout mea culpa

Couple of weeks ago Chris Breen and Philip Michaels were recording a Macworld Pod cast episode. Chris was on the iPhone while Philip was on Skype. In spite of repeated attempts of trying to slip into another iPhone caller using the iPhone’s easy as a pie Merge shout feature Chris couldn’t patch in another caller. Both determined to consider and commence the shout and the wording in the iPhone User’s Guide PDF appeared to support their possibility. So they decided to share this information with the general public and then relax in the color of enjoyment. The open minded public responded saying “Uh…wrong, dummy”.
They heard from lots of persons who said they were able to use the Merge signal feature on the iPhone even when someone else initiated the signal, undercutting the usefulness of their little tip. Later they figured out the possibility that Skype was the culprit, perhaps there was something about VolP that puzzles the iPhone whenever it’s request to put together a conference shout. This was their second theory. On the same afternoon both Chris and Philip began experimenting on the second theory. Philip placed a series of calls from different phones to Chris in order to figure it out in another caller.
In the analysis one, Philip made a call from his office phone Chris put him on hold to dial in Dan Frakes. Everything was going according to their plan. In the analysis two, Philip called from his own mobile phone and yet again Chris added Dan Frakes to the shout to chalk up another Merge signal success. In the third analysis, Philip launched Skype and called Chris, Chris then added Dan Frakes to the shout. This was the time it worked well as announced, there were three Macworld editors on the signal. Both Philip and Chris were puzzled enough to know why the hell it did not work on their first attempt few weeks ago.
