Null River, creators of a tethering app called Netshare, have received an official word from Apple that their app has been removed and banned from the App Store. The company’s offical statement: “Looks like Apple has decided they will not be allowing any tethering applications in the AppStore. As such, NetShare will not be available in the iTunes AppStore…This is all unfortunate news for the iPhone platform end-users.”

Netshare

This appears to be bad news for other similar apps, like PDANet. It appears

Apple isn’t going to allow any sort of tethering application, at least for the time being.

This issue seems to be on the tongues of many app developers these days. It seems there isn’t any way of knowing if Apple will be interested in an app or refuse it without putting the time and energy into developing it, submitting it, and seeing what happens. We’ll keep an eye on this issue. Hopefully, Apple will release a strict set of consistent standards at some point.

This is another good reason to jailbreak your iPhone with Pwnage tool; you can run one of many different tethering applications and gain access to other great applications being freely distributed through the open community installer.
