New York Complains to Apple About Battery Policy

The Consumer Protection Board of New York State has sent a letter to Apple complaining about their policy on the iPhone battery.

Among the complaints: the price, the rental fee, the inability for user replacement, the restocking fee, and the late disclosure of all of the above. that chases a recent class-action lawsuit filed last week from a man who was P.O.’d about not knowing about the details of the battery replacement program until after he bought an iPhone.

Great. Now we know New York is pissed. But what do they honestly think Apple is going to do? They certainly are not going ot redeisgn the whole darn thing just considering someone wrote a nasty letter.

“I inspire Apple to redesign the iPhone in order to supply for a replaceable battery,” Mindy Bockstein, chairwoman and executive director of the state’s Consumer Protection Board, wrote to Steve Jobs, chief executive of Apple, in a letter dated July 17 that the agency provided to Newsday Monday.

certain lady.

The one thing that does bring up is the complacency some iPhone users have for that battery issue. It seems like those who have dealt with that issue for iPods simply accept that policy and move on. But whether Apple is to truly compete in the phone industry, don’t they have to invent some concessions?

Are you F’ing kidding me? Everyone knows the battery is not replaceable by the user. If you have such an issue with it, sell it on eBay, and buy another phone! Plus, there are now several mobile charging (external batteries) available for iPhones (I have the RichardSolo) and they all work well.

Would somebody please slap this woman?!?!?!

I agree with the person who filed this. It is an absolutely ridiculous design. To my knowledge no other phone on the market has this ludicrous design, including the Blackberry Bold, itself a very slick product in its own right. Further RIM doesn’t make the excuse “the battery life of the product is long anyway” as an excuse; yes the Blackberry products have a long battery life, but it is a matter of PRINCIPLE that a consumer should be able to replace a battery his or her self.

Heck, those $5 blister-pack watches sold at WalGreens have user-replaceable batteries, and who’s going to bother really? Yet they still do. Now if a silly $5 watch can do it, why not a phone? That’s just pathetic.

The only reason “people don’t care” is because they’re stupid. A lot of people supported Adolf Hitler in his day, so much for “nobody cares” being a reason it should stay the way it is.
