The official announcement is expected to be made public before Apple’s Worldwide Developer’s Conference on June 9 in San Francisco, where Steve Jobs reportedly would launch the 3G iPhone version.

The available version of the iPhone uses enhanced GSM or EDGE in communicating with the mobile phone network. In Australia, Telstra is the only telecommunications company to support the EDGE network. However, with the release of the 3G iPhone version, Optus, Vodafone and other carriers have an opening to get some iPhone action.
