Shortly after the iPhone launched there was a rumor that Apple would unleash a huge software update for the device. Well we did did get a minor update today but that was only a bug fix. No, what I am referring to is something much bigger…
“Management expressed excitement at plans to increase iPhone value by duration via new software features, citing ‘the sky is the limit’ for iPhone software,”
It is that quote by Greg Joswiak, Apple’s Vice President of iPod Product Marketing that has the Net stirring once again on whether a massive iPhone update will roll out soon. There is so much faith being piled into that statement that an analyst, Mike Abramsky fully believes
However we must consider one thing: the timing of that statement. Greg did say we would be getting an update soon, his statement coming out Tuesday. That same day he confirmed an update we got a minor patch for the iPhone, version 1.01 which is nothing more than a few bug fixes.
Could we be blowing that out of proportion or is the timing accidental? I have no doubt Apple is committed to providing updates for the iPhone but the real stuff won’t reach until Leopard ships, Apple will want to preview its iPhone integration with the new OS.
