another option is to setup hotmail as to be received into gmail using gmail settings. goto settings for gmail and click on Accounts and Import. Click on Add POP3 email account and follow the wizard and instructions from there. I can now receive email from hotmail and when I reply to it it appears to come from hotmail. and I did send an angry response to that stupid error that hotmail gives when trying to forward emails.

Thanks San’s, it does work, but means the push service wont work so you have to set your phone (via mail settings) to fetch and then pick how often you want it to check your mail.

If you want to send e-mail from your phone as well as receive you will need to enter your e-mail address and password in the SMTP outgoing server boxes as well as the POP boxes.

Hi guys,

you dont have to get your hotmail mails forwarded to gmail to access them on iphone.
Just do this.
Goto Settings in Iphone.
1) Mail and accounts
2) Add Account
3) Enter your username and password. Then it will ask you to setup a IMAP ot POP account.
4) Select POP
5) In incoming server host name enter pop3.live.com and ur hotmail username and password.
6)In SMTP outgoing server enter smtp.live.com. Leave the username and password blank.
7 Save the account. It will verify automatically and theres ur hotmail accessible on iphone. nothing else….

People claiming they have followed above tutorial , is either not sure what they are talking about, or they really CAN forward hotmail accounts to any other emal than hotmail,msn or live.
Which I really doubt.
I tried to forward emails from my hotmail to the gmail and it would give you an error saying “You’re only able to forward mail to a custom domain or an e-mail address that ends in hotmail.com, msn.com, or live.com. Please try again. ”

but there is a way of getting your hotmail emails from GMAIL side of configuration. Check in Gmails Settings>Accounts>Get mail from other accounts.

I followed the instructions and was able to access my hotmail emails from the iphone. However, when I reply to emails, it comes from my gmail address rather than my hotmail address. Is there a way to make it so it comes from my hotmail address as well?
