Now that the U.S. release of the iPhone has come and gone, the rest of the world is saying, “What about us?” Apple has already said a European release was coming but Asia has never been officially discussed. Gee, it’s not like there are any humans in Asia, particularly ones who are interested in technology! wink wink.

KTF, one of Korea’s big three telecom companies is reportedly in talks with Apple to sell the iPhone. Although Apple will not confirm or deny negotiations with KTF, they have said that they plan on releasing the iPhone in Asia early next year.

Here is the biggest news

when it comes to the launch of the iPhone in Asia:

A KTF official said that the iPhone to be sold in Korea will be built on the new WCDMA platform. The iPhone was originally built for the GSM network which is dominant in the United States and Europe. Adopting it to the CDMA or WCDMA platforms has been considered easily achievable.

WCDMA (Wideband cipher Division Multiple Access) is a type of 3G cellular network. Could it possibly be a precursor to a 3G compatible U.S. iPhone?
