The collaboration between Apple and Starbucks to allow customers to browse, buy and download music from iTunes has kicked off in Seattle and New York Starbucks locations.

Customers entering the stores for their caffeine fix may find that their iPod Touch, iPhone or laptop with iTunes has automatically found and connected to an iTunes wireless Music Store inside the coffee house. This happens seemlessly without the need for a hotspot login and is coupled with the Starbucks soundtracks to offer the customers a list of recently played and current tracks they hear overhead.

Because Starbucks has long been providing unique and interesting music to its’ customers they have been a major player in delivering music hits and it seems a natural fit with

iTunes. The coffee giant even has grammy awards under its’ belt for music produced by the chain’s chain’s Hear Music division together with record label Concord Records.

To celebrate the opening of the Wi-Fi iTunes Music stores in Seattle and New York, the coffee houses are handing out “Song of The Day” cards redeemable on iTunes for free songs. They are estimating one and a half million cards to be handed out daily through November 7th. Selected artists are featured every day and the card entitles the holder to a free song by that artist.

The planned rollout of the service includes the San Francisco Bay area in Novemeber, Los Angeles in Februray, Chicago in March and remaining markets in late 2008.
