Earlier this year, the iPhone was released to an awaiting public. People lined the streets on the date of its release just to get their hands on Apple’s latest baby. The only downside to the iPhone, so it seemed was the very steep price range. Naturally, such an expensive gadget would need to be insured in some way. In response, people turned and inquired if the AT&T Insurance plan would be available for the iPhone – the sobering answer was: No!
There were many perks provided by AT&T that you would not find in other insurance plans. These perks include insurance against accidental physical damage and a lot of other things. So, in the absence of the AT&T insurance, we turn to other insurance providers. There are two known reliable sources for getting insurance for the iPhone and these are: the AppleCare Protection Plan and Square Trade.
AppleCare – a short while after the release of the iPhone it was announced that AppleCare will carry a “CarePlan” for the iPhone. For most iPhone owners, this is an answer to their problems. Owners have been looking into a good insurance plan for their iPhone, especially because AT&T does not carry one. The AppleCare Protection Plan may not have some of the features available to AT&T
The AppleCare CarePlan will extend the hardware repair coverage of the iPhone for up to 2 years from the original date of purchase. The plan is only compatible with iPhones purchased under the Apple Warranty. Unlike the AT&T plans, AppleCare does not insure the iPhone against liquid damage or any accidental Physical damage to the product. In essence, the AppleCare CarePlan only stands to extend the original 1 year warranty.
SquareTrade – SquareTrade is one of the better known insurance providers in the market. They provide a care plan that is similar to the AppleCare plan. Square Trade care plans are available at 10% the original price of the iPhone – and that is $49.99 and $59.99, depending on which iPhone is being protected. Square Trade promises that in the event something happens to the unit, they will either replace it or pay the client the amount used to purchase the iPhone.
Like the AppleCare plan, SquareTrade plans do not guard against “accidental” Physical damage, but they have released a statement that they will soon be releasing a CarePlan that does. In the event, SquareTrade will undoubtedly be the best bet when choosing a CarePlan for the iPhone.
