The second-generation iPhone will be officially out in the market of at least 20 countries by July 11, 2008. And now that Steve Jobs has announced the device’s launch date, hundreds or even thousands of mobile phone consumers are now planning to purchase the 3G iPhone. However, these consumers would pay thousands of pounds than their expected bill if they choose to download programs or music internationally.

iPhone

Apple Inc. and O2 will is already using the unlimited download facility in order to market the iPhone. It has used the facility last November for the first-generation iPhone and will still use the same facility for the 3G iPhone. The 3G iPhone carried by O2 can be free for some consumers as long as they choose a specific O2 tariff.

Unfortunately, the Wi-fi allowances as well as

the unlimited data are only available in United Kingdom. If you will use the 3G iPhone abroad, you can be charged as much as £3 for every megabyte of the data that was downloaded in EU. You will be charged £6 if you were to download from other parts of the world.

If you will be watching the average iPlayer program that has 300 megabytes, this means that you have to pay £900 if you are currently located in France. And if you are in America, you have to pay as much as £1,800 for the whole program.

But although downloading is quite expensive, iPhone users still opt to do so because it is nice to watch the moving images at the device’s large screen. Aside from that, users can easily navigate the 3G iPhone as well.

This article was a little hard to interpret, but if I understand you correctly, roaming data usage will be pricey. But do not confuse carrier data plans with wifi. Nobody’s monitoring your iphone’s wifi usage! It has nothing to do with the carrier.
